about

recorded in Sydney, Australia on February 6, 2014

I met and performed with Oliver Bown in 2013 in Vancouver, when he was visiting and working at Simon Fraser University School for the Contemporary Arts. Oliver invited to play with his interactive software system, called "Zamyatin", a highly developed program that learns to recognize a performer's musical gestures. We did a recording session at Kim Cunio's house on a beautiful morning. Kim graciously offered to take all the recorded material and re-organize it as a comprehensive set of music. Playing the Castle is the first time I have ever collaborated with two other musician at the post-production level, where the raw material is reshaped, redefined to accentuate some of our personal idiosyncrasies.
